Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in the performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would be considered, at least in the eyes of America, into the child prodigy category. These traits were natural for an Irish-born child surrounded by talented parents and a loving, supportive family. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin - Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was a kid and was very adept in them. Her ability to perform was a perfect complement to her interest in sports. In the end, she won the majority of the Feis Awards for dramatic and acting in her home country. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14 as she was able to fulfill her goals of opera as well as classical theatre and singing.
